Do you ever wish you could get a glimpse in to what life is like for other families? Well, I’ve decided to pop in every couple of months or so to give you A Glimpse Into Our Life. This round of A Glimpse Into Our Life includes a peek into our holidays and the new year.
A Glimpse Into Our Life: Holidays & A New Year

Around here these days, we’re…
recovering from the holidays. We had such a sweet Christmas season together. With a new baby in the house, we really tried to keep things simple – with the decor, the food, the gifts, the commitments, etc. – We rolled through the season as slowly as possible. We said NO to most things and YES to our favorite things, and I found myself making a mental note to take that same approach again next year…and the next year…and the next. Following the holidays, however, we traveled a bit, and while it was one of our smoother treks up, across, and back down the interstate, it was exhausting, and I think we’re still recovering.
getting organized. Just before the holidays, I like to do a purge of stuff: toys, clothes, storage closets, kitchen cabinets and drawers, etc. It always feels so good, but around the new year, I usually find myself doing it again – tackling all the holiday STUFF that has made its way into the house over the past several weeks. What needs to go in the trash? What needs to be returned to the store? What needs to be donated? What can I give away to someone else who might truly love it? You get that idea. This year, I have felt slow going through this process, so I’m still knee deep in the middle of it right now! The Christmas decorations have been taken down and are almost all put away in the closet…but not quite. The gifts that need to be returned have been bagged…but are still sitting in the back of our minivan. The items for donation have been sorted…but not yet delivered. You get the idea. The whole process is currently driving me bonkers, and I am excited to get it all finished up soon. The other night I told my husband, “I have GOT to finish tackling all of this STUFF. I think I’m just going to stay up all night and take care of everything!” Twenty minutes later, he found me sitting up…in a chair…asleep. It was 8:43 pm.
ringing in the New Year with a trip to the emergency room. I shared all of this excitement here, and if we had known then what we know now, we probably would have just stuck with poison control and avoided the whole emergency room situation, but sometimes…in the moment…you’re just not sure what to do, and I always shoot for playing it safe. Anyone else? Side Note: I noticed in my Facebook memories that this all happened on the same date – two years ago – when hubby sliced his arm open while attempting to remove Christmas decorations from the front of the house. January seems to be somewhat touch-and-go for our family. ha!
getting ready to celebrate Aubrey Day. Last year, so many of you joined us in celebrating Aubrey Day! We were completely blown away with the way people – from all over the world – made January 15th a day of choosing joy with the ones they love most. Tears come to my eyes every.single.time. I think about the encouragement that was heaped on us that day. Our family will be celebrating again this year – and every year: celebrating our girl and celebrating our God – all with giant Chick-fil-a cookies in hand! What’s the deal with the cookies? You can read about that here. #choosejoyonaubreyday
