Do you ever wish you could get a glimpse in to what life is like for other families? Well, I’ve decided to pop in each month to give you A Glimpse Into Our Life. I’ll share the good, the bad, and ugly, but I especially like to focus on the good!
This round of A Glimpse Into Our Life includes a peek in to our January!
A Glimpse Into Our Life: January
Around here these days, I’m…
celebrating Aubrey Day. January 15th is the date in 2016 when we found out our daughter had been gifted with an extra chromosome, and this year, instead of focusing on the challenges and difficulties and struggles and fears that come along with a diagnosis like that, we wanted to do something a little different. We wanted to intentionally CHOOSE JOY and invite our friends and family near and far to join us in doing the same, and they blew us away – encouraging us in more ways than they will ever know. Aubrey Day was so special, and we will never forget the way so many of you shared in our special celebration.
preparing to speak at a conference. A few months ago, I was asked to be one of the speakers for Life Fellowship Church’s 2017 Key Keepers Conference. I received a message asking me to come and share my best tips for cleaning and organization within the home. hahahahahahaha! Friends, after reading the note, I looked around at the state of my house and could not help but laugh! The kitchen was a disaster! The family room looked like a tornado had RIPPED through it. The unfolded laundry was everywhere. The whole place was a m.e.s.s. – and it was in that moment when I knew exactly what I wanted to communicate to the ladies who would come to my session. So as I look ahead to speaking to this sweet group of women, I plan to remind them that as long as people (especially little people) are living in their home, a Pinterest-perfect environment is going to be impossible. I can’t wait to huddle with these mamas and encourage them to let go of any futile attempts to achieve perfection and learn how to create life-giving spaces where their families can actually enjoy being together! If you live in the Charlotte, NC area and are interested in attending, shoot me an e-mail! I would love to connect with you.
working on a new product. As you may already know, I recently released an e-book for any and all moms interested in educating your little ones at home: Homeschooling Your Preschooler was first made available on August 1st, 2016, and in 2017, I am looking forward to releasing my Homeschool Preschool Letter-a-Week Lesson Plans. Yes! I am planning to provide moms of toddlers, young preschoolers, older preschoolers with A through Z Activity Ideas for their little ones! I have already jumped head first in to the very beginning pieces of this project, and I can’t wait to get it in your hands. If you want to be kept in the loop on the release info, sign up for details, and you will be the first to know when this product goes on sale!
wishing for more snow. A couple of weeks ago, we got snow – yes, here in North Carolina! It was especially fun, because we got to be snowed in with one of our favorite families – friends we had not seen in over three years! They arrived just as the snow was getting started, and they were stranded here with us until flights started back up a couple of days later. We ate (and ate and ate and ate), drank lots of coffee, played games (including the new Pie Face Showdown Game we got for Christmas – ha!), watched a couple episodes of Fixer Upper, and laughed and laughed and laughed. The back story is that one of their daughters was in a 2nd grade Science class I taught several years ago – and now she’s a gorgeous teenager who sat in my living room and told me about her upcoming college tours. How is that possible? Ahh! Crazy! Anyway, long story short: Over the years, our families became friends. Her dad was one of the groomsmen in our wedding. She was one of our flower girls. We’ve just all always had a lot of fun together, and we can’t wait to see them again – and we are hoping for snow! ha! Our family and friends up north think we’re crazy for wishing such things, but we want another snowman and more hot cocoa! 🙂
busy with homeschooling. My kids are still young enough that most all of our learning activities are fun enough that we can keep on rolling with school – yes, even on snow days! In fact, the extra down times gifts us with some additional opportunities to do MORE, and I love that. The teacher in me simply can’t help myself, and I am going to hold on to this gift of the little years as long as I can! I have a feeling when they are in middle school they may demand official time off during winter storms. ha!
Our new year has kicked off with lots of smiles, laughter, joy, and peace, but if yours hasn’t been the same, hold tightly to this promise: Joy comes in the morning.
