Mommy’s Tool Box: Kitchen Must-Haves for Mommies
I don’t know about you, but as an at-home mama with little ones, I live in the kitchen! Between meal prep and snack time, I literally spend most of my days standing at my kitchen island chopping, slicing, dicing, prepping, mixing…you get the idea.
With most of my time being spent in this part of our house, I was excited when I realized that our kitchen design included a secret little pop out compartment where Mama could stash a few must-have items for herself! I love referring to this space as Mommy’s “Tool Box”!
I keep a handful of must-haves right there within reach, and I flip this compartment out multiple times a day!
What are my go-to items?
Kitchen Must-Haves for Mommies
Tool #1 – Deodorant! Is this weird? Maybe so, but as I go throughout my day – in and out of the house – all around with the kiddos – back and forth from the gym – I’m telling you, it comes in handy…daily.
Tool #2 – Chapstick! You will find my favorite chapstick stashed all.over.the.place. On my bathroom counter…on my nightstand…in my purse…in my minivan console…and definitely in my kitchen!
Tool #3 – A Lighter! No, not for cigarettes. I love to keep candles burning, so I am always using this lighter to light a kitchen candle that will help to make our entire living space smell yummy!
Tool #4 – Scissors! Not only do I keep a couple of different meat-cutting scissors in my utensil drawer, but I always keep at least one pair of all-purpose scissors on hand. While working in the kitchen, I find myself pulling them out constantly! (While we’re talking office supplies, a pen and/or a Sharpie marker can also come in handy – especially when it’s time for me to prep my freezer meals!)
Tool #5 – Band-Aids! Yes, not only do I like having these handy for myself, but I have also found myself quickly grabbing them for my kiddos! (I also keep an aloe plant on my counter top – This is the best thing in the world to use when I burn my fingers while cooking – but my plant won’t fit in my little pop-out compartment so I didn’t include it in this official list of tool box ideas. *smile*
Tool #6 – Chewing Gum! After dinner…before company comes over…any time I need a little breath-freshening action, I like to be able to reach in and grab a stick of gum…well, I typically only chew 1/2 stick at a time, so that allows my packages of gum to go even further.
My hubby knows I keep chewing gum in my little secret compartment, so sometimes he asks me to share with him! Since these containers come with 35 sticks, I don’t mind sharing: Give Extra, Get Extra!
I found both Extra® Gum Spearmint AND Extra® Gum Polar Ice® at Target – right there in the checkout lane! The new Extra® 35-Stick Packs feature durable, recycled packaging – no flimsy boxes! I love that!
Want to create your own Mommy Tool Box?
Step #1 – Consider a few items that you KNOW would be helpful to have on hand in your kitchen! Are there things you always find yourself needing but never have within reach? You may even want to make a list of items that come to mind.
Step #2 – Gather these items together! Is there something you need to buy? Is there something you need to move in to the kitchen from another room?
Step #3 – Find the perfect space for your mommy must-haves! Do you have a pop-out compartment like mine? Do you have a small basket that could sit on your countertop? Do you have a junk drawer that needs to be cleaned out and repurposed? Find what works for you, and while you’re at it, don’t forget the chewing gum…
…and don’t forget to share!
